My name is Emily King and I aspire to attend a highly selective college and play competitive volleyball. I am interested in pursuing a degree in chemistry or biology and going on to medical school. I am an extremely hard worker on and off the court, and teammates describe me as dedicated, a loyal leader and a positive role-model.
I have been a straight-A student throughout my academic career and carry a very heavy and rigorous class load consisting of all Honors and AP classes, plus Symphonic Band and Mandarin Chinese. I was recently elected an as Service Officer for National Honor Society for the 2016-2017 school year and am a Dartmouth Alummni Club Book Award Program recipient. In my spare time I serve as a Child Life volunteer at Children’s Hospital in St. Paul and also enjoy working as a youth volleyball camp leader and referee.
While academics are my number one priority, my true passion is volleyball. I am currently in my sixth season with Mizuno Northern Lights in Minnesota, where I am a DS on the 17-Red team. This past high school season as Libero I was voted Team MVP and received All-Conference Honorable Mention. I was also chosen to be team captain for the 2016 season and am already thinking about ways to help take us to the next level! Aside from being selected as an AAU Academic All American, one of my most significant achievements to date was receiving the Eastview High School Lightning Award as a sophomore. This award, which is one of the highest honors bestowed upon a student athlete, is typically reserved for a graduating senior. Through thought, voice and action, the Lightning Award winner demonstrates leadership in the classroom, athletic arena, and throughout the community, and understands that the resources and talents of a focused team make everything possible. This award exemplifies who I am as a student, an athlete, and a person, and I will continue to portray these characteristics once I get to college!
