I view my volleyball career as a rollercoaster that only goes up. This year I was the only freshman on the varsity volleyball team, and was a starter all season. I am beginning my 5th year of JO volleyball. While I have improved an extreme amount over the past 5 years, I have a constant aspiration to become a better player. It’s fun just to play sports… but what’s even more fun is being the best. That’s what drives me, my desire to be the best. I want to be the player the little girls are talking about up in the stands, dreaming to be like when they grow up. I want people to look up to me in the way I looked up to many of the girls I watched in years past. To me that is one of the best feelings in the world; and it doesn’t come easily, nothing in sports or life does. Becoming the best starts right now, with not only lots of training, but wanting it everyday and always giving 100 percent. There’s competition at every corner, there is no time for a break. Especially with my goal of playing volleyball at a D1 college.
Prior to my volleyball career, I was a gymnast for 8 years. I believe this is a huge part of my athleticism. Throughout those years my dad always pushed me to try new things like hockey, softball, soccer, etc. but nothing interested me. Then finally one day, I had a friend invite me to try a volleyball camp with her, and turns out, I loved it! From that moment on I have played volleyball. It’s truly a blessing to be playing, and I know never to take any moment for granted. Also, my parents have played a huge part in creating my competitive edge.
As a person, I’m kind, respectful, responsible, funny and caring. As a player, I am a great leader, communicator, coachable player, and I have some pretty great hops that I know will only get better! However, as a player and person, I have a mindset that I won’t quit until I satisfy teammates, friends, and myself.
I also play lacrosse; this will be my 5th year of that as well. I play on a select team in the summer that travels across the United States to compete, “The Minnesota Lakers.” It has been a great program for me, as it teaches not only lacrosse, but also valuable life lessons and skills. They are making lacrosse girls in Minnesota better players, people, and athletes. Last year, as an eighth grader I made the JV team at Blaine, started all season and was voted MVP by my teammates. I am a midfield player, take the draws and love the head to head competition!
The sound of the student sections cheering is music to my ears, and I hope one day more than just my city will be cheering me on.
