Hello my name is Jaclyn Ruffolo. I am a senior at Mercy High School in Farmington Hills, MI. I have loved volleyball since I was eight years old and have dreamed of one day playing college athletics and leading my team on the volleyball court.
With each new level of volleyball, whether it was in grade school, high school or at the club level, brings extra requirements, such as elevated weight training, longer practices and more travel from home. My experiences have taught me to relish hard work and perseverance.
After graduation, I want to continue playing volleyball at the college level. I am committed to applying myself fully and enthusiastically in every way possible to ensure this. Juggling school and athletic commitments have trained me for the pressures of the real world, forcing me to multitask in order to meet various deadlines. It has allowed me to become a well-rounded person.
For the past four (4) summers, I have traveled with my church youth group for one week each year to Appalachia. It has always been one of the highlights of my summer. There is nothing more rewarding than being able to help others. As much as I was able to help the people in the various communities I visited, I also had the opportunity to learn from them.
This past summer, I also worked as an intern with a local company. As I performed my different responsibilities, I interacted with people at many different levels. As a result, I further developed my ability to work as part of a team towards a common goal.
I have learned that, as in volleyball, life's successes often come a little at a time. Sometime event the act of showing up to practice when I am exhausted and my body is tired and worn out separates a great result from a failure. I know that, by consistently working towards my goals - however small they may seem to be - I can accomplish what I set for myself, both in and beyond the volleyball court.
