Personal Statement
My name is Erin Bitzer and I am a junior at the American School of the Hague.
With my father working for the military, I moved around a lot when I was a kid living in the states. My family and I ended up being relocated to the Netherlands when I was six years old. Living overseas has been my life for the past twelve years and has influenced me greatly as a person. I started out at a Dutch public school, having to adapt to the new culture while learning a whole new language was difficult but I think I am a more well-rounded person because of it. I eventually switched to the American school in town and I began playing volleyball on the school team in the sixth grade. I have participated in three sports since I was in the seventh grade but volleyball has always been the sport I've been most passionate about and have put the most time into. Playing overseas has taught me a lot about working with new people and being adaptable, as being at an international school we often have move-ins and have our team members move away. Being on the team has not only shown me how to be a good team member but also what it means to be a good team leader as I was varsity team captain in my junior year and hope to be in my senior year. I do my very best to make schoolwork a priority at all times, by taking more challenging honors and AP classes, regardless of how much I have going on sports-wise. I plan on studying athletic training in college and I am very excited to start that process as well as hopefully starting out on a college volleyball team!
