Personal Statement
I am a 6'1" right-side hitter and setter currently living in Germany. I am a senior at Ramstein American High School and was on the Varsity team as a starter and a captain for the 2011 and 2012 seasons. My team won the 2011 and 2012 DoDDS Europe Division I Championship. I was selected as an All-Tournament player both 2011 and 2012 and the Tournament MVP in 2011. I was also selected to the All-Region 1st Team and All-Europe 1st Team both years. In DoDDs Europe there are 30 schools, out of which, 24 players are chosen for 1st and 2nd teams. After my high school season last year, I began playing for a German club team. My club team played in the Landesliga and was the champion of this league last season. This season, my team moved up to the next level, the Oberliga. Currently, we are undefeated in this season as well! I have enjoyed the opportunity to play against highly skilled European players in the 16-50 year old range! Last summer, I attended four volleyball camps: one at Northern Michigan University, one at the University of Chicago, one at Lehigh University, and one in Vilseck, Germany (this is a camp specifically for high school volleyball players living in Europe). It was through the summer instruction and workouts that I greatly improved my hitting footwork and my serving. I finished my high school season as team leader in kills and aces. I want to continue playing volleyball at the college level. I am looking for a college that will allow me to pursue a degree in the medical field, specifically in a branch of sports medicine, or biomedical engineering. I am open to a school in the Chicago area, as well as Phoenix, Los Angeles, Denver and Minneapolis. Coming from a military family, I have lived around the globe which has allowed me to easily adapt to new places.
