Hi, I am Jaycee Solosabal. I am a junior at Glenns Ferry High School in Glenns Ferry, Idaho. I am the middle child of John and Jolinda Solosabal. My father is the fourth generation manager of our family farm/ranch. My mother is a teacher at Glenns Ferry Elementary and is also the varsity volleyball coach at the high school. I have an older brother, who is 21. My 15 year old sister plays on the same varsity and club team as me. I have been playing volleyball since I was little, and it has become my most favorite thing in the world to do. I would love to continue playing volleyball after high school on the college level.
I have a 3.3 grade point average currently and am working hard to increase it. I am seated seventh in my class of forty-five. I want to go to college to study Criminal Justice. I would like to someday become a detective.
Not only am I on the volleyball team, but I also run track. I run the 100 meter dash, the 300 meter hurdles, and am in relays. I have been a member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) for the past three years. Last year I was the Reporter for our chapter, and I am currently the chapter’s President. Two years ago, I served as the Freshman Class Secretary, and I am currently the Junior Class Treasurer. I am working with my class prom committee to help put on the best Junior Prom that our high school has ever seen. I have served in many offices for my church group since I was twelve. For the past nine years, I have been in 4H, where I show swine and dairy heifers in the county fair. I have also had guinea pig, cooking, cake decorating, leadership, and quilting projects. I have been in many different 4H clubs and have served as President, Secretary, Reporter, and Photographer.
When it comes to volleyball, I would prefer to play libero. Because I come from a very small school, I often have to play in positions that I wouldn’t if I were at a bigger school. My freshman year I played both middle and outside hitter, and sometimes I’d play libero. The past two years as a sophomore and junior, I played outside hitter and defense specialist. I prefer to play in the back row, since I love serve receive. I find satisfaction in getting nice ups and digs to the place where the setter needs it. I hope to play libero this coming season, as a senior.
The best quality that I possess is dedication. I have been taught all my life that if I start something, to never give up and finish it. I love to stay active and be involved. This is what sets me apart from other players. I am willing to learn from my mistakes and to practice new skills until I have perfected them. I will do whatever I need to do no matter how long it takes, and I won’t quit until the task is complete.
