My name is Skyla Whitaker, I am 17 years old and i have played club volleyball for 5 years and school volleyball for 5 years as well. The sport of volleyball is more to me than just a game, its pretty much my whole life. I eat, sleep and breathe volleyball. When I'm in the gym by myself or with my team, I feel a sense of home and belonging. I've always dreamt to be standing in the middle of that college court with a smile just beaming from my face, because of pure bliss and happiness that the game gives me. I've learned so many things from people in my 5 seasons of club, school and just training outside of practice. One of the most important things is that you can never give up on yourself even if you're going through a "rough patch" or you have a bad practice. Its important to stay confident and to let go of your mistakes because those are always going to happen in the game of volleyball. Its easier to give into frustration but it takes especial kind of athlete to over come those obstacles and better herself for the good of the team, and for the mind of the player. The love I have for the game is almost horrifying for some people, but I aspire to play this game for many years to come.
