My house has always been filled with sports. Both of my sisters and I have participated in soccer, basketball, swim team and a few dance lessons, that have never really paid off, but the moment I stepped onto a volleyball court, I knew it was the sport for me.
That love started on a small Rec league that wouldn’t let you serve overhand and had high school players as setters. It was a good beginning. Fortunately, the team name was the Roswell Red Cows, which made everyone shake in fear. We completely dominated that competition.
The next season I started to play for the nationally known club, A5, in Atlanta. I have stayed with A5 for the past five years. Four of those five years I was a captain and was given the name “Mama Boch” from my teammates. They think of me as the leader, or the mother, of the team. I can also be put anywhere you need me on the court. I have played mostly outside in club, but have also been used as a rightside and ds.
I played outside and have set and hit in a 6-2 for my high school’s Varsity team. We made it to the Elite 8 both years, in the largest division, before being knocked out by the future champions. I was awarded MVP by my teammates and also received a Varsity letter and Scholar Athlete award both years.
I work hard at volleyball but also at my academics. I know they are the ticket to my future. I have earned three “highest average” awards, one in Honors Biology and the other in Pre AP World History and Honors World Literature. I am a member of my high school’s orchestra in which I play the cello. Creating music is different from everything else out there; one mistake, and the whole piece does not sound right. I love being a part of the music program.
I do not know what I would like to do with the rest of my life, but so far I am leaning towards the math and science fields but really enjoy learning about history and psychology. I do not want to limit myself in any way, so I am open to many things and ready to create my own path.
