Antomeia Chaney '16 Recruiting Profile

About 3 years ago, I was a typical teen aged girl, glued to my cell phone, giving my mother all kinds of problems, not focusing on my education and like most teenagers, thought that I was entitled to everything.  My grades weren't the best and truly, I wasn't even applying myself.   My mom was completely frustrated with me, my attitude and the path I was heading down.  I knew that I needed to change.  My mom and I sat down and had a long heart to heart, discussing what I wanted out of life and how would I accomplish that.   I am forever grateful for the next thing that my mom done for me.  She introduced me to her favorite sport, volleyball.

Volleyball has completely changed my entire mindset!  I played Junior varsity my freshman year of high school and was completely hooked! I made a promise to my mother and most importantly to myself, that I would take every advantage and opportunity afforded to becoming the best daughter, student, volleyball player and an all around person I can be.    After my freshman season was complete, I was given the opportunity to join the Tsunami Columbus Volleyball Club.  Being apart of Tsunami Columbus gave me great training on becoming a not only a great volleyball player, but the meaning of discipline, hard work paying off and the concept of being a team player and a leader among my peers.  My grades, focus and overall attitude have done a complete 180, thanks to the wonderful sport of volleyball. 

My goal is to earn my degree in Sports Medicine or Exercise Science and move on to becoming an athletic training or physical therapist.  I pride myself on being a team player and learning as much as I can to improve my skill set to help my team be successful.  I work hard and have been playing volleyball consistently for the last 2 years, to include additional work outs with an athletic trainer at the local university here in Columbus, GA.  I try my best to keep a positive attitude, not only in sports, but in my life in general.
