My name is Samantha Turpin and my current height is five feet, eight inches and I weigh 145 pounds. I am a Setter. My high school volleyball team is Saint Petersburg Catholic HS (Grades 11 and 12) and for 2015 Club season I will play for Tampa Bay One 17U National team. Other volleyball teams I have played for are Canterbury School of Florida (CSF) High School Varsity Volleyball Team (Grades 9 and 10) and the St. Pete Volleyball Club Team (14U,15U,16U).
After my Sophomore season, I was included in the "Honorable Mention" section of the 2013 Soph79 (by Topical Gear and prepvolleyball.com) list of top high school sophomores in the United States.
After my Junior season, I participated in the Under Armour Winter Competition. This competition happened at the Olympic training facilities in Colorado Springs Colorado. The dates were Dec 27-Dec 30, 2014. In the summer of 2015 I will be part of the AIST 19u Team USA that will play in Europe in June 2015. This is a team made up of players from across the USA and I look forward to playing in the United World Games representing the USA.
What I can offer to any team is a player with drive and commitment as I am hard working and always strive to be the best that I can be. I am always challenging myself on and off the court. By participating in other athletic activities including basketball and running, I made the varsity basketball team as a freshman and sophomore and have won a 5K race for my age group.
I like to challenge myself in the classroom as well by taking honors/advanced honor classes and I have made honor roll every term.
Along with sports and academics, I enjoy performing community service. I have participated in beach cleanups; restoration of the coastline through the planting of marsh grass around the St. Petersburg/ Tampa Bay area, Project Action to address childhood obesity, clothing and toy drives to benefit Ronald McDonald House and also cooking for the tenants there as well. My community service hours currently exceed 200+ hours and I plan on volunteering all through high school.
In my spare time, I like to draw, participate in photography and I am very interested in Criminology. I am considering majors in the areas of, Forensics (Data or CSI), Criminal Psychology, International Business or Studies, French, Marketing or Sports Management.
I have always dreamed of playing sports in college, becoming a great example and role model for my younger sister along with other children and peers and making my parents and family proud. I want to play as a freshman in college, but I also want to play at the highest level of competition possible. I am set on improving my skills and wanting to make an impact on any team I play on no matter where or who the team may be.
