2015 HighlightsPersonal Statement
My name is Alexandra Gonzalez. I am currently an OH, 5ft9in and graduate in 2017. I’ve been playing sports, organized and recreationally, since I was 5. Once I picked up volleyball in 7th grade, I haven’t looked back. On most of the teams, I’ve been an OH/full rotation/Captain and on a few teams I've played as a MH, RS, or DS, but I’ve always embraced each position with enthusiasm and played to my fullest potential enabling the team to succeed and for me to grow and become a more well-rounded player.
During my freshman year at John A Ferguson High school, I started as an OH and captain for the JV team and was moved up to Varsity by the end of the year. During my sophomore year, I played as a middle hitter and while initially challenging, I quickly adapted and helped my team win the GMAC tournament, Districts and reach the regional semifinals. Currently, I play for MVA (Miami Volleyball Academy) and am into my 5th year in club play (3rd at the Nationals level). My biggest accomplishments so far are qualifying for Jr Nationals in Minnesota in 2014 by going undefeated and winning the Big South Tournament in club play and reaching the Florida Class 8A State Semi Finals last year (2015)!
What I bring to any team is an unmatched work ethic, hustle and a winning attitude. My team knows they can count on me for anything. I'm usually the first one to get there and the last to leave. I never quit or give up and believe in leadership by example. I'm very competitive and only strive for the best. Wherever I do go, I want to contribute to the team by helping it reach and surpass its goals, and along the way accomplish my academic and volleyball dreams. Just as volleyball is my biggest passion in life, academics are just as important to me. I plan to major in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or Pre Physical Therapy and am open to going somewhere in the Southeastern US. When I graduate college, I want my school to have challenged me and made me the best at what I do on the court and in my field.
