My ultimate goal is to play competitive college volleyball, and complete my degree in Nursing. I'm an all around player and I go beyond what is required in practice, by staying in shape and fixing up basic skills, to become better at the sport I love. I play both high school varsity and club volleyball and work extensively outside of weekly practices, by playing competitively with previous college and professional volleyball players, both men and women. In the back row, I pass and dig great balls to the setter, cover all my hitters, and read the opponents swing for digs. Offensively, I have a wicked float and top spin serve, and I have a great vertical for blocking and hitting. Setting wise, I set accordingly to each player's desired set and I direct the court as a leading, loud setter. In addition, I am academically dedicated to excelling in the classroom. My studies are the most important reason for attending college, and I always keep my focus and grades up to par. My work ethic is second to none and I believe in leading by example. I play volleyball because I love the competition, teamwork and the excitement of the game; My love for volleyball is undeniable. I always compete in every practice and games, never giving less effort than the last practice or game before. I'm always growing as a player, and I always strive to become better. I don't make excuses when I make mistakes; and I always work with motivation and integrity, worrying about every play, and making the next play better after a mistake. I am extremely athletic, powerful and physical, very coachable, quick, have a strong vertical and the skill/ability to play multiple positions. I will be a valuable player for your team and you will not be disappointed.
Recommendation Letters:
To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Kali Rumberger Broome & this is a letter of recommendation for Ms. Malika Saffore. To give you some background information on myself, I was a full scholarship Women’s Volleyball athlete for Appalachian State University from 2002-2006. As a four year starter, two as an outside hitter and two as a libero, I was able to break the school’s all time dig record with 1,828 digs, become the Southern Conference’s inaugural Libero of the Year in 2005 and second team all conference in 2006. Since completing my eligibility I still love the sport and play in tournaments, open gyms and recreational leagues up to five days a week. This is where I had the honor to meet Ms. Saffore.
Malika is an incredible person and a hardworking athlete. She gives the sport her endless devotion and is highly focused. Not many high school athletes are as dedicated and driven as Malika. She is welcomed on the court by ex-professional, college and high school athletes alike. Malika is one of the good ones; she is the quintessential team player. High spirits and encouragement exude from this athlete.
Having been a team captain in both high school and college, I know the type of player that brings a team together and one that tears it apart. Malika is smart and hardworking, she would be an asset to any program both on and off the court. From what I have seen she has had incredible role models in the form of her mother and father. Success is imminent for this young lady. Although slightly small in stature she makes up for it in heart, determination and sheer will power. I can identify with her situation, being 5’7’’ myself and told most of my career I would never play Division One. An insightful coach took a chance on a smaller girl and I ended up having an illustrious career, as I am sure Malika will.
Please contact me with any questions regarding Ms. Saffore.
Best wishes,
Kali Broome
