My name is Megan Farrah and I am a junior student-athlete at Pagosa Springs High School. I play multiple sports at my high school and excel in all of them. I believe sports have shaped my character and made me the person I am today. My parents were both exceptional athletes and they sparked my love for athletics. I am an equestrian, play basketball, and run track, however, I have found my passion to be volleyball and I would like to specialize and pursue it in college. I plan on using the skills I have learned in all my sports to mold me into an exceptional volleyball player. I use other sports for a lot more than just cross training. I have been an equestrian since I was very little. My horses were my first teammates and unlike any teammate a regular athlete will encounter. I have learned to communicate in many ways, even without words, and have learned many hard lessons involving failure, injury, and frustration. However, I also have been blessed to compete with my teammate at the highest level and understand the work required to reach that point. My equestrian background has set me up well for my other team sports including basketball. Basketball brings many things to the table for me: great coaching, dedication, and a killer instinct. My coach, Lewis, has led me to a basketball win-to-loss record of 76-2. He continues to teach me how to win and how to dominate while doing so. I am a Consolation State Champion, State Champion Runner-Up, a State Champion with an undefeated record. Following many successful basketball seasons, I jump into my only individual sport: track and field. Although it does not retain the team aspect of volleyball, it has taught me many other lessons I believe transferable to any sport. To be competitive in track, you have to know how to push yourself. You don't have a team to fall back on. I have learned to hold myself to a higher standard and always expect my best performance without requiring a coach's constant attention. The final lesson that I believe is vital to my performance as a volleyball player has not actually come from sports, but from my little brother. I have learned that some things come before your own success. I understand that, like my brother, the team comes first. My duty as player is to make my teammate look good; to protect my team.
I believe these lessons and experiences to have molded me into an exceptionable athlete. The reason I would like to specialize in volleyball, however, is because I can apply these lessons along with the special passion I have for volleyball. I love the mentality that volleyball requires and have fallen in love with every aspect of this explosive game. I am an extremely versatile player and find every position to be rewarding in its own way. I look forward to collegiate completion and am excited to continue my passion as a volleyball player. Thank you for your consideration.
