Abby Gonzalez '11 Recruiting Profile

My name is Abby Gonzalez, and I stand at 5'9" and 135 pounds. I have a vertical jump of 9 feet and 4 inches and an incredibly fast arm swing. My biggest passion in life is playing volleyball at a competitive level. I started playing volleyball in my 6th grade year, and have continued to play on my school team each year. It was not until my sophomore year of high school that I tried out for club and made a traveling team. I had an awesome first year of club, and greatly enjoyed the competitiveness compared to high school games. I began to consider making it my goal to play volleyball on a college team. I am currently in my third year of club on an 18's traveling team. The experience has taught me about the importance of teamwork, and what position suits me well. I have a number of qualities that would bring out the best in a team. First, I respect each and every teammate of mine, whether on the court or off. If a teammate is down, it is my responsibility to provide support, and better that teammate's attitude, as well as the performance of the entire team. Second, the intensity I bring to the court is highly respectable, and not counter-productive Although my drive to be the best I can be may sometimes impede with my mental game, there is never a moment when I am not aware of the effort that I need to put forth to help my team on its way to success. Education is just as important to me as the game of volleyball. I am interested in a larger school, preferably division 2, and if not, 3. It is not my biggest wish to stay in the state that I have centered my life around. Therefore, I hope to attend a university in California, New York, Washington, or Florida, etc. I have a vast interest in English and Psychology, as well as music. I love all forms of writing, including poetry and creative writing. The majors I am strongly interested in are Psychology and English composition. However, I also have a passion for music, and have been playing the violin for 8 years. My athletic goals consist of playing as a freshman, and actually helping my team on the way to wins and further success.
