Mikala Nicholson '12 Recruiting Profile

Hi, my name is Mikala Quest Nicholson and I am very interested in being recruited for a college or University. I am currently the defending AA discus state champion of West Virginia from my sophomore year and I have a PR of 102.2ft at a track meet and at a recent practice I threw aproximately 104.5. Mine and my coaches goal for my throwing discus this year is to beat the current record at my high school, 115.4, which is held by my aunt, Mary Wilson. My current PR for shot-put is 29.8, shot-put isn't exactly my strongest event but I believe with more training and increased knowledge on the subject, I could greatly improve. I am anxious to get out of the small town of Spencer, West Virginia and begin my life out on my own, let it be here in West Virginia or anywhere in the world. I am a good student, with good values, and high expectations for myself and I also have a strong thirst for proving myself to my peers, my family, and most importantly to myself. I have a bubbly and friendly personality. I love learning new things and when I do finaly get to go to college I want to learn how to throw the Hammer and the Javeline in combination with shot-put and discus. Here in West Virgina it is illegal for high school students to compete in the hammer and the Javeline because they are viewed as to dangerous. Which I think is ridiculous. I have been raised very strickly by my parents and I have learned many things from my strong and hardheaded father about being responsible and self motivated, and from my kind and caring mother I have learned to be patient and to also be respectful to everyone, even if I believe they do not deserve it. My biggest long term goal for my discus career is to someday be good enough to compete in the summer Olympics and to reach the top ten in the placings. You may think that that is a rediculous goal to have as a high school student but I suppose that winning a State championship as a sophomore is pretty ridiculous too.
