Personal Statement

Hello my name is Jeniya Guillen and I am a Junior at Sunnyside High school. Currently one of my goals athletically is to complete my high school career as a four year Varsity letterman in Cross country, Women's Wrestling and track. I am well on my way. I believe that being an athlete has taught me the meaning of hard work and dedication as well as mental toughness. I would also like to add that I have a tremendous amount of heart. I realize that anything I put my mind to I can achieve. I am goal oriented and always strive for success. I have been told by all of my coaches that I am coachable and am a natural athlete.
The goals that I have are to obtain a Masters of Social Work and to specialize in working with the ageing population. I also have a significant interest in working as a high school counselor as well as being a coach.
I believe I am a good candidate because I feel I am able to motivate my team by leading by example. I have a very strong work ethic and can push beyond my mental limitations and motivate my team to join me in success. I do however always remember to remain humble as nobody likes or appreciates dealing with arrogance, confidence is okay but I believe that there is a fine line between the two.
What makes me different I believe is that your name is all you have and if you exhibit poor character such as poor sportsmanship or a bad attitude this is what people will remember you by rather than by your success. My parents always tell me behave in a fashion that if someone were speaking badly or negatively about you to someone else they would never believe it because they would know that I have good character and strong integrity.
I would also like to add that I believe I am a well-rounded individual not only do I do multiple sports year-round, volunteer with local community athletic programs and a member of the Sunnyside High school athletic advisory but I am also able to maintain a 3.3 cumulative grade point average. I will however continue making every attempt to raise that grade point average.

  • I successfully completed the boys Kaizen intensive camp as the only female enrolled in that camp. I remained on the varsity team with the boys only to be put out the day before camp was over. I lost my match to a 2x State champ. Many boys were not able to complete the camp due to its intensity.
