Hello Coach!
My name is Angelica Gaughran. I am currently a senior at Thomas Edison High School in Alexandria Virginia. I've run Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track since my freshman year and now captain since the beginning of this school year. We do not have a large long distance team as we only had 14 girls total for Cross Country this year, but that doesn't stop us. I have gone to states 3 times since freshman year, twice my sophomore year in the mile during indoor and the 2 mile during outdoor. I am also happy to say I ran at the Cross Country State meet this fall. I began having interest in the sport because my dad used to run in high school and got a full athletic scholarship to Providence College for Cross Country and Track. I have learned so much about myself from running. I always was a competitive person, but from this sport I have learned it is not all about winning and getting medals. It is about getting better within yourself and putting the commitment, work, and time into it and with that mindset you start seeing the rewards. For example, I shaved 15 seconds off my time from Conference to Regionals and finished 5th in the 2 mile advancing me to States, last spring. My family has instilled in me that academics is the most important aspect of my life, that it can take me farther in life than anything else. I challenge myself by taking Honors/ IB classes and currently have a 3.58 GPA. I take school very seriously and have the same motivation and drive in running as I do in school. I am not just a leader in sports, as I was nominated and won woman role model of the year among all the sports my school offers. I am also the co-leader of my advance women's choir and also try to take initiative and participate in the classroom. I will continue the same effort when in college, because I have goals to achieve that only a great college can help me achieve academically and athletically.
