Personal Statement

I consider myself to be a hard worker. I'm not just satisfied with being good enough or capable, but I feel like there's always room for improvement. I'm the type of person who looks forward and I live by the motto the best is yet to come. Basically that just means my best may have been yesterday, until today. I am very dilligent at everything that I do. The one thing that I think sets me apart is that I'm not only relying on sports alone because I was injured at some point. My dream is to take track as far as I can go; however, I know not to play around with school. Since middle school I have been enrolled in honor classes. Almost all my life I have been on the honor roll. I'd love to run in the olympics one day along side greats like Sonya Richards and Alyson Felix, but I have other goals as well like becoming an attorney. I took it upon myself to learn everything I could about becoming a lawyer which included interning for two summers in a row at Chatman&Griffiths PLLC lawfirm. Also this past summer of 2010, I went to a leadership conference specifically for law. Other steps I have taken to achieve this goal involve being an active member on the debate team. I do understand that I must apply myself on and off the track and I feel that I have taken the necessary steps to do so. Another thing that sets me apart is that I don't strictly rely on talent alone. I've had those years where it felt good to be on the top and then I had one year of being on the bottom. Being on the bottom only made me fight harder, work harder, and train harder. There were days when I may have been dead tired, I stayed later and continued to work hard. To me, it isn't enough to be one of the best, but I want to be the best and I won't stop until I reach my goal. I've always welcomed challenges with an open heart. In middle school I tried to play every sport up until my sophomore year in highschool. I juggled basketball, which I was team captain every year, track, cross country, and academics until finally I decided to stick with track my true passion. I hope that as a freshman in college I am able to not only bring success for the team but leave a great influential impact on my team. To my current teammates on my high school team, I bring inspiration and words of encouragement. I am a very spiritual person and I rely on God to give me the strength that I need to complete my races. By the grace of God, He has allowed me to go to regionals twice my sophomore and junior year in highschool in Humble, Texas where I've twice made it to finals but unfortunately not to state yet. I'm 5'2 and I weigh 114 pounds. I am a sprinter and my PR in the 100m dash is 12.36. Again, as of now that was my best then, and I am fully confident with all the training I've been doing this summer, that I will exceed that time by a long shot. The most important thing that I want coaches to know is that I'm very dedicated to the sport of track and field. When I put my mind to something, I will do it and I won't stop until the job is done. I am determined to let no drama of any kind, foolishness, or juvenile antics, deter me away from my goal. I realize the potential that I have and I can assure you that I will not let anything or anyone jeopardize my oppurtunity of what could be a lifetime. I am more than 100% focussed.
