My name is Laquishea Coleman. I grew up in Breckenridge, TX. My mother passed away when I was very young and for most of my life I've had to bounce around from different family members and friends homes. Through all that, I was able to continue to attend school and particpate in extracurricular activities. I achieved a 2012 & 2013 Texas State Finalist 800 Meter Relay and 100 meter, 4 year letter as a varsity cheerleader, 4 year letter in track, and I was part of the 2013 National Cheerleading Competitive Cheer team for 6 years located here in Breckenridge.
Starting my senior year 2014, I met James and Michele Simmonds and have lived with them for this entire year. This was the first time in my life that I found real stability. In addition, halfway through my senior year I was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. I finally now have the tools and resources that allow me be able to focus with an academic environment and many other avenues within my life. My year with this family has taught me how to be organized, how to be responsible for all my actions, and that I am accountable first to myself and also to all those people who love and support me. This is now my family for life and they will continue to love and support me through all my academic and sporting endeavors.
I am proud of myself for getting to the point of graduation and all my sporting achievements given the limitations I faced as I grew up and I'm so thankful to all those people that have supported me. I am looking to continue my career as a student athlete in college. I know I have the god-given talent to compete at the highest levels. This is my goal and determination. Through relentless hard work and dedication, I have no doubt I can and will achieve great results for my team, school, myself, and my supporters. I've won many races against many people in my time in high school and I'm now ready to take the next step and be a successful student athlete at the collegiate level.
