Hello my name is Morgan Allen. Running for me started when I could barely walk. My mom would tell me stories about how I ran everywhere, even if it was to another room in the house. As I went through elementary school, I started to realize that I was good at running and that it came easier to me than my classmates. Their pace would be slower than my pace and I would always leave them behind. Our task would be to run around the track 6 times, but I always managed to average 12 laps because I wasn’t tired. Every time I lapped my friends they would say, “There she goes again!” Back then I never knew what running could do for me, but it has taught me life lessons and how to trust my body and push it to its limits. Through junior high, I would always be named, “the fastest kid in the class”, and I never liked losing so I took that title seriously with the many races I won. I was always competitive and I still am, in everything I do.
I was first introduced to cross-country in the 8th grade. I had no clue what it was, except that it was running, so of course I wanted to do it. Long story short, for never running a cross-country course, I came in 1st place with plenty of room to spare from the 2nd place runner and was named District Champion of Cross-country.
Through the years my dad instilled in me that nothing comes easy and that if I want something bad enough I have to go out and get it. I carry that same mentality with me to this today and it got me a 4 year letter on the high school track and cross-country team and Team Captain for those 4 years. What set me apart from the rest was, yes I was fast, but I had the work ethic that put me ahead of the game. You can have all the athleticism in the world, but if it comes with a lazy mentality and only relying on your natural ability, then you will not get far. I have made the decision that I want to run in college because, first off, I love every aspect of running, and second, I feel I can bring something special to the track team. I like to see myself and others around me succeed and witness firsthand how hard work put in can pay off.
