I am Samantha Gudger, a senior at Tennessee High School. I like to help others, play sports, and learn new things. I consider myself to be a very caring and selfless person. My strengths are getting along well with others, good leadership skills, and I have integrity, and I am a loyal and respectful person. I am on the Fellowship of Christian Athletes leadership team at my school, a part of Bristol Youth Leadership, National Honors Society, and Beta Club.
I am looking for a college that will assist me in reaching my full athletic potential and prepare me for post graduate success. I plan to major in Education or Sport Science and Fitness Management;pursuing a career in coaching either way. I want to major in either of those subjects because I love sports and because I want to make a difference in people’s life by hopefully teaching them something new and getting them to love learning.
My love for running and jumping fueled my desire to join the track team in the 7th grade. My competitive nature and strong work ethic resulted in me making the varsity track team freshman year and all State each year thereafter. I also use weight training and sprint workouts to build my leg muscle and help with my speed. I placed 4th at the state track meet for High Jump this year. I also long jump, run the 4x100, 4x400, and hurdle. Both on and off the track, it is important for me to demonstrate leadership to my teammates and my peers. Running track has helped improve my leadership skills because sometimes we have really tough workouts and underclassmen think it is tough and they won’t be able to complete it, but I like getting out there and just doing it to show them that it is possible. I think track is a team sport because even though there are individual races, you still have to put yourself on the line for your team and run as hard as you can or try and jump as high as you can. Track has made me focus on my academics a lot by teaching me how to manage my time between practice and homework. In the off-season I play basketball to stay keep in shape and to improve some of my mobility skills.
