Maggie Hering '13 Recruiting Profile

Having participated in sports since the age of five years old, I've had plenty of exposure to different sports and the atmosphere athletics provides. Ever since that moment I played my first soccer game in 2000, I've fallen in love with sports. That passion pushed me to greater heights, to demand more of myself, and to become a better person as I learned the foundation of what makes an athlete an athlete: competitiveness, integrity, positive mental attitude, respect, and hard work. This love for athletics also lead to my discovery of track in the 6th grade. I love the combination of both individual performance and competing as a team. Since that time, track has become my passion.

Regarding my future, there's one thing I've always known. I want to do something I love. When I graduate from college, my biggest dream is to find a career that brings me happiness, find a job that isn't just a paycheck, to truly enjoy what I do. At the moment, I'm not sure what career path will best fit me. I have interests but not a distinct job in mind. In my opinion, that simply opens me to more options.

While I may not know exactly what career to pursue, I know I want to continue with athletics. My entire life has revolved around athletics; it has taught me team-work, and how to think about others before myself, it has taught me how to lead, how to accept responsibility for my actions, and to develop relationships I never would have developed otherwise. To continue this experience into the next part of my life--my college career--would be my ultimate goal.
