Hi there! My name is Victoria Haynes and I'm a junior at South Medford. I am ranked first on our varsity cross country team and I typically run 5ks but if given the chance, I would love to try various distances. My current 5k PR is 19:05 on a challenging course, and my goal is to get that down to below 18:30. This year I'm planning on running track as well, most likely the 1600 and 3200. In June of 2014, I ran my first marathon at 15 years old. I ran it injury free and I finished with a Boston qualifying time as well. I found out that my body responds very well to high mileage. It was a great experience and I see myself becoming a marathoner later on in life! Although an education always comes first, my dream is to become a collegiate runner. I have a 4.0 and I'm in a couple AP classes. My main focus is on math and science. I love biology and how the body works. I find this ties in very well with running, I am very in tune with my body and it has helped my training too. I have been a runner for 5 years, but these past few years I have realized running is my true calling. It is the thing that challenges me to do better in all aspects of my life. After pre-districts this year there was a comment about me in the local newspaper. They said I "ran with a look of contentment" and after that same race a girl came up to me and said "wow, you beat me..and you're wearing lipstick!" That made me laugh because I always wear my lucky hot pink lipstick when I race. I tell people it makes me run faster.
I know I am going to be a runner for the rest of my life, and I hope my journey begins with you!
