People tell me that I have a quiet competitiveness that comes out once I set foot on the track. I do not like to lose and I do everything in my power not to.
I get my inspiration from my father who was a college athlete at UNC-CH. He has Parkinsons Disease. Watching him struggle daily with the smallest of tasks with no complaining makes me realize how lucky I am to be able to run as I do. He is with me every time I step on the track.
I want to be as good of a runner as I can be. I get satisfaction from working hard and seeing results. I have shown steady improvement in my times over the last 2 years. I probably am a little "raw" as a sprinter but I feel I have a lot of upside. I ran my first 100 meter race and used blocks for the first time this past 2014 season. In May at the 5A State Championships I finished 5th. I have not had a chance to run an individual 200 since April 11th because of the races' proximity to the 4x400 that I anchor. Consequently, the last one I ran was a 26.58 but I was showing steady improvement up until then. I have never run and individual 400 but I ran a 59.18 anchor leg in the OK State 5A Championships this May. I am now running 12.7 in the 100, 26.5 in the 200 and 59.18 in the 400. I anticipate improving these times over the summer.
