Running in junior Olympics was the highlight of my highschool year. However , I felt I grew as a student -athlete as a freshman and making it on podium as a freshman for state was a great experience . Last May , I had a major surgery called spinal fusion ,which is basically where they fuse your spine together . I have 18 screws and 2 rods in my back . I realized that my running was leaping out of my hand ; as I would ask the lord why ,I began to question my role . This setback made me more determined because I wanted it so bad . I was relearning how to walk the first day out of surgery . I could remember the doctor saying you are a very strong kid . I wheeled myself back to health and back to where I needed to be . The recovery road was very hard ,I even had some doubts ,I would cry because all I wanted to do was run and be the best . This obstacle made me very strong . I knew that if I was going to make state I had to push my body past its limits , and that's exactly what I did, I made it to state with 18 screws, all I can think is man I am truly a fighter . I was very fortunate to make state this year considering my condition . I knew that I had to have commitment , teamwork, sacrifice , and leadership in order to be where I needed to be . I am looking for a program that has a great training system as well as a great education program . I believe that I have the talent to compete , but the character, work -ethnic and leadership skills to make an impact on your track program .
