I started Track because my mother encouraged me to play a sport. I didn't know what sport I wanted to try but I had always loved running and was always told that I looked like I ran track or that I ran fast so I decided to try Track&Field. I'm glad I did, Track has become a big part of my life and has made me realize even more that I need to work hard to reach my goals. Before Track I was a good student but now I have to work harder so I can keep my grades up and stay on the team. I have multiple awards for A/B Honor Roll and the African American Award for Academic Excellence as well as a Student of the Month award. I've done various community service activities including Operation Santa Claus the last three years and recently joined Key Club. I'm also in Ernst&Young College MAP Scholars Program where we had EY Connect Day and volunteered at the Second Hand Food Bank of Metrolina and Mayor's Youth Employment Program.
I primarily run Mid-Distance (400, 500, 800) but have done some Sprinting (55, 100, 200, and 300), Relays (4x2, 4x4, and 4x8), and Long Jump. I have two Varsity Letter Awards, a Letter, and a Bar. I was nicknamed Seabiscuit my first year on the team because I was an underdog but proved that I could do great things. My coaches didn't know what I could do because I had never ran track before but I worked hard and always tried to complete the full workout. After practice I often stay an extra hour to continue working out by myself, with a coach who may still be staying, or one of my teammates. I have also stayed and helped my teammates.
