My name is Mackenzie Kenny and I am currently a junior at the Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child in Summit, NJ. I ultimately grew up running track and I ran all throughout elementary and middle school competing for my town. However, my main sport at the time was lacrosse and I played on a very competitve club team, dedicating time all year around to lacrosse. Once I got into high school, I could no longer do both lacrosse and track in one season, so I gave up track. Then, the winter of my sophomore year I realized that all I wanted to do was be out on the track running instead of playing lacrosse. I had gotten caught up in the lacrosse process without stopping for a second to think about why I was playing lacrosse and what I really wanted to get out of playing lacrosse. In that process, I decided to make a huge switch and a risky decision to abandon lacrosse and all that I had worked for in that sport, and run track spring of my sophomore year. That decision made me realize that track was truly what I was passionate about and now, I could not imagine not running track. In that spring season of my sophomore year, which was my first ever high school track season, I attended the Penn Relays, New Balance Nationals, broke 2 school records, and qualified for the New Jersey Meet of Champions in the 100, 200, 400, and 4x400.
When I started running that spring season, I enjoyed every second of it and I became so passionate about being the best that I could be. I would set a goal for myself and I would not stop until I achieve that goal. For example, my goal was to run a 59 second 400 last season, and I achieved that. For this spring season, my main focus is to get my 400 time down to a 57 while also getting my 200 and 100 times faster by ultimately becoming stronger and quicker. I have such an immense amount of dedication and heart and I am 100% committed to bettering myself as a person and as a runner. I am ready and willing to work extremely hard to continue achieving even higher goals and run faster times.
