I come from a family of runners. My grandfather broke a four and a half minute mile in high school, my aunt ran cross country and track at Ithaca College, and my cousin ran on the marathon team at West Point. As a young child, I ran many local races with my mother and usually won. Although it has taken me a while to realize my full potential, once I did, I have been excited to run.
At five feet and two inches tall, I am small, but I am strong. I have a muscular build and can run short sprints and long distance. I am a team leader and do my best to set a good example for my teammates. My coaches tell me that I am very coachable, and I take direction well. I have been working hard this year. I gave up field hockey, which I played for five years, to concentrate on running. I will be running cross country this fall instead of playing field hockey in hopes of increasing my endurance and decreasing my times.
In the classroom, I maintain a 4.0 GPA, challenging myself by taking more difficult AP classes. In addition, during the summer, I have volunteered at the local field hockey camp and the Longport Historical Society for the past four years while maintaining a summer job.
For college, I am determined to pursue a career in nursing while running at the college level. I realize it takes a great deal of discipline, but I am ready for the challenge. I believe that I have the potential to be stronger and run better and will strive to be an asset to the team. Most importantly, I will conduct myself in a manner that is respectful and honorable to myself, the team, my coaches, and my parents.
