Personal Statement

I started running when I was in the third grade, I ran to be just like my dad. As time went on, I participated in many sports and along the way began to develop a strong passion for running. When I ran a 5K and won first place in my age group, I knew running was something I wanted to continue for the rest of my life.

To have the opportunity to pursue running in college became my dream, after competing at counties in seventh grade and being amongst the best in my area, I realized my dreams could become a reality. I grew to excel in track and started to plan out just what I would need to do to be able to run at a collegiate level. I began to think long and hard about who I wanted to be when I grow up and just what I would need to do to get there. As I went on to high school, I became heavily involved in student activities because I wanted to meet new people and be an active part of my student body. Currently I am involved in many leadership positions, and love helping out my teammates and classmates when they need advice or just someone to talk to. I am a self starter and take a disciplined approach in my academics and training. I put my heart into every goal I set, and understand achieving each goal means getting one step closer to my ultimate dream.

During my sophmore year three weeks before track season, I became injured. While I stayed optimistic, I became very aware of the affect of injury to my body. As I became more and more educated on how you body works during physical activity my interest grew in sports medicine.  I now know I want the opportunity in college to stay running competitively while keeping my sights set on a career in sports medicine. I hope to find a college where I can pursue my love for competition at its highest level and continue to excel academically while pursuing my interests in sports medicine.
