Personal Statement
My name is Sarah Dahlstrom and I am very eager to learn more about your track and field program. I have been a three-sport Division I varsity athlete at Algonquin Regional High School since I was a freshman, lettering in soccer, basketball and track each year. I am a Central Mass All-Star in all three sports. In my Senior year I was selected as Captain in my varsity soccer, varsity basketball teams and varsity track teams. Currently, I am 5 feet 10 inches and weigh approximately 155 pounds. My junior year our varsity outdoor track and field team is the Central Mass Division I Champions, District Champions, District Relay Champions, League Meet Champions, Overall League Champions and Central Mass Pentathlon Champions. We were the #3 team and #2 teams in Central Mass Division I during my sophomore and freshman years, respectively. I feel as though I have helped the team accomplish its goals, and look forward to continuing this in college. I believe that I can impact your program through my hard work, determination, drive, and team-oriented style of participation. I am prepared to compete in any event in order to help the team earn the highest points possible. I often spend extra time after practice going over my techniques with the coaches, and have come to the track on weekends to improve those techniques. It has been my dream to compete at the collegiate level, and I think that, while the program will have so much to offer me, I too can make a positive impact. In college, I would like to compete in the heptathlon. Although my top track and field performances are in the discus, 100M hurdles, 400M hurdles, triple jump and shot put, I believe I can excel at a variety of events. I participated in four Central Mass Pentathlons (best finish placing 3rd out of 116 athletes and 20 teams) and really enjoyed competing against some of the best athletes in our state. I have been to the All-State Championships in five events (100H, 400H, Triple Jump, 4x400 and Discus) and to the New England Championships in the discus. I was selected to the Central Mass Track & Field All-Star Super Team and I am a four-time League All-Star. In addition to winning and placing in over 10 different varsity track and field events, I have also been a starter in both soccer (outside midfielder) and basketball (forward). In 2009, we won the Division I Massachusetts State Championship in soccer against Acton-Boxboro, then the ESPN #1 high school team in the country. I played club soccer for the Mass Premier Soccer's Renegades U-18 team. I just finished my fourth season of varsity soccer and was one of the team's top scorers as outside mid and striker. I was selected to the league and Central Mass All-Star team. I am currently starting my fourth season of varsity basketball. My junior year I led the team in points and rebounds and was selected as a Central Mass Division I All-Star, a Mid-Wachusett League First Team All-Star and a MetroWest Daily News First Team All-Star. I am mainly interested in colleges in the East. My educational development is extremely important to me, and I therefore am looking for a school with high quality academics. As of now, I am very interested in an Education major or concentration, but am unsure of what level exactly I would like to teach. Participating in a college track and field program in itself is rewarding. I do hope that I can compete as a freshman, and do whatever I can to help the team achieve its goals. Whether it is to win events or meets throughout the season, or become champions, I am ready and excited to do whatever I can to help your team succeed. Thank you for this opportunity!
