My name is Emily Tibbetts and I am a rising senior at Lenox Memorial High School. I began varsity track in 7th grade, and varsity cross country in 8th grade, and each year since then my love for the sport has grown. I made the All Berkshire first team in 8th grade for cross country, was named rookie of the year, and was the second runner for my team. Since then, I have made the All Berkshire first team for cross country twice and All Eagle for track and field two years in a row. I have qualified for the Western/Central MA track and field meet every year since starting track, and ran in the Massachusetts state track meet this past season.
I had a breakout year junior year of cross country. I finished in the top three of every county race this season, was the captain of my team and set a PR by over a minute and a half. I finished 10th at the Baystate Invitational, which my team won, and broke 20 minutes in the 5K at the Brown Invitational Championship Race, in which my team finished fifth. The following week I set another PR, 19:21 in the 5K, at the Berkshire County Individual Championship. I finished in 2nd, and my team won, sweeping the top four. The following Saturday at the Western MA Championship at Northfield Mountain I won the race in 20:29, the first female individual champion from Lenox since the late 80s. I also lead my team to a Western MA championship with a team total of 27 points, a school record. The last race of the season, my team finished second at the State Championships, and I broke 20 minutes in the 5K for the third time. This upcoming season I am hoping to break 19:00.
Each year my love for the sport grows. Running with my teammates at practice is the best part of the day, and I love pushing myself to be the best that I can be. I love that the more you put in, the more you get out, and that fast times are the proof of hard work and dedication. I can't imagine my college experience without running and racing.
Just as in running, I like to push myself academically. I have been on the High Honor Roll every year since sixth grade and have received a number of awards for my academic efforts. I am in the process of trying to get my junior year research paper published, and in September I will be presenting another one of my history papers at Ventfort Hall. This past April I traveled to Argentina for 10 days, where I lived with a host family and was immersed in the Spanish language and Argentine culture. I scored a 2130 on the SATs my first time, and will be taking four AP classes next year. Outside of the classroom I am very involved in leadership. I have been Class President since 6th grade and as Class President, I founded and headed the Lenox Loop, a road race fundraiser that has raised over 20,000 dollars for my class. I am also involved in student council, Youth Leadership, and SAVE, a group that strives to raise awareness for gender and class issues around the world, with a focus on international trafficking.
I'm looking forward to the athletic and academic challenges that college will bring, and will work hard to be an effective addition to any program.
