I am Carly Curcuru, a 17 year old distance runner from Gloucester Massachusetts. In fifth grade, I began running. I was the youngest person on the team, making me even more determined to become better. Each year passed with more and more improvement. That's probably my favorite part about running. It's so easy to see how my hard work pays off.
Right now, I'm in my third season of high school cross country. I'm the captain of my team, and my season has been stellar so far. At the first meet on my home course I PR'd by over a minute, running a 17:57. I can't wait to see how the rest of the season plays out.
I believe that my strong sense of determination and leadership is what makes me stand out the most. When I have a bad race, I don't quit. I go home and research for hours on end about how to get better. When girls on my team have a bad race, I'm there to support them every step of the way.
Off the track my determination is still extremely visible. I work hard to maintain a strong GPA in school. I take difficult, advanced classes not because I want it to look good on my transcript, but because I love the challenge and satisfaction of learning.
