Takera Smalley '11 Recruiting Profile

Hello, My name is TaKera Smalley, and I am a track & field athlete. My passion and love for track and field started during my middle school years at Churchland Middle School in Portsmouth, VA. Due to my passion everything I learned about track and field came to me very easy. For two years I ran over the summer with my peers for an AAU team in Virginia called the Churchland Trailblazers which, my father was the head coach. Being a very social person made running with my peers very comfortable and relaxing. I also ran against girls with amazing talent. Seeing them run only made me hunger for the sport, become faster and stronger. I worked hard during the AAU season so that I could reach the potential and talent that I saw in the other girls. The hard work paid off because, that following season at Churchland High School as a freshman, I beat those same girls I admired during the AAU season and I was nominated as rookie of the year.
