Personal Statement
My name is Denee’ Lawrence and I am a Junior at Ramstein American High School, in Ramstein, Germany. I am a military brat and I have a bubbly personality and an optimistic outlook on my future. Off the track, I am active in both my community and school. I participate in most, if not all school events, I am a multi-sport athlete (varsity volleyball), I volunteer at the hospital through the American Red Cross, cooperate in church-affiliated events, and all the while managing a job. I maintain leadership roles in FBLA, Spanish Club, NSHSS, Varsity Club, Alumni member of NYLF, and a Spring inductee into the National Honor Society. I am an academically driven student, I maintain a 3.5+ GPA on a 4.0 scale, I take AP classes, I am also studying to become a CNA (2016), and I have received academic honors throughout my high school career for exhibiting outstanding grades and leadership skills.
My ultimate collegiate goal is to find a college that will support my academic desires along with my athletic desires, therefore I am open to ALL divisions. I would like to major in Exercise Science. My aspiration is to become a Physical Therapist and practice at an Army hospital. I feel a great duty to give back and help those individuals who have put their life on the line for the sake of our country.
On the track, I compete in open events, such as the 100 and 200, as well as anchoring relays, such as 4x100 and 4x400. I was a captain of my high school team as a sophomore, anchored a school-record breaking 4x100, tied with a school record (200 // 25.44), and assisted my team (Women’s) to becoming DoDDs Division I Champions (2014). I believe I would be an asset to the team because of my determination to see not only myself improve but also my teammates. I consider track & field to be a team sport, just as much as it is an individual sport. I cannot express the importance of a team on an athletes performance. I would strive to exhibit ath.lead.er.ship by pushing myself and my teammates in practices and at meets. I am coachable and can receive and accept positive criticism for the betterment of my athleticism. My versatility as an individual (experience from different parts of the world being a military “brat”) and an athlete allows me to bring more than just performance to the table.
Living in Germany puts me at a disadvantage to connecting with college coaches, however, I think this is what sets me apart from other recruits. I must be eager to let coaches know that I exist and that I AM a dedicated athlete. I must be eager to let the coaches know that it I am just as talented as stateside counterparts. My initiative, persistence, and determination is what makes me different from other recruits.
