My name is Rachel Thompson. I am 17 years old and a junior at New Prairie High School in New Carlisle, Indiana. I am interested in continuing my running career at the collegiate level. I am a very disciplined student-athlete and I am always striving to go beyond my potential. I am very strong-willed and coachable. My junior year in cross country, I was chosen as a captain of the team. I love running and challenging myself. I am a very team oriented person. Everything I do, I do to help benefit my team.
I am interested in running for a school that is division 1 or 2, but I would definitely consider a division 3 school as well. My older sister is attending college now, so my family would need financial aid. Academics are a priority for me so I want to attend a school that will help me reach my goals both academically and athletically. Being close to home is another important factor that will help me determine where I want to go to school.
My current PR in cross country is 18:54. I am hoping to run in the high 18:20s or low 18:30s during my senior year cross country season. In track I usually focused on the 1600, but this year I am aiming my focus more towards the 3200. My junior year track season I ran a 3200 PR of 11:43. I wasn't completely satisfied with that time so I am hoping for improvement next season.
I am undecided on a major right now. My interests include English, journalism, broadcasting, nutrition, or psychology. I am a member of my school's spell bowl team and we have been state finalists for the past 2 years. I am also a part of the Spanish National Honor Society and I was chosen by my school's athletic director to be one of the 6 members of the Student Leadership Committee. I have a 3.1 GPA while taking Advanced Placement United States History and Advanced Placement/Dual Credit English and Language Composition. Next year I will also be taking Advanced Placement Government, Advanced Placement/Dual Credit English and Language Composition (grade 12), and Dual Credit Pre-Calculus.
I am very passionate about running and I want to attend a school where my goals can be attained.
