Update 10/31/17: As captain of the team, I am so proud and excited to say, for the first time in Franklin County High School Girls Cross Country team history we went to Regionals and Semi State. At Semi state 5 of the seven girls (including me) achieved a PR.
-----------------------
I have only been running for a little over a year. My first cross country season I made varsity and was named Captain. I also received the most improved award at our banquet for cutting over 7 minutes off my time during the season. What has motivated me most as a runner was missing the last qualifying time for regionals by 27 seconds. This summer I have been training hard, taking care of my body, eating right, and setting goals. During the summer, we had a running club that started the day after school let out May 20 and finished July 31. I accomplished my goal making the 100's club.
This is a letter from my coach:
To Whom It May Concern,
August 13, 2017
I have been Novalynne Beck’s cross country coach for two years. She had played other sports, but decided to try cross country her junior year of high school. From the moment she decided to join the cross country team, her dedication and commitment was evident. I was so impressed with her work ethic, dependability, and self-motivation, that I designated her the captain of our girls’ team. She came to practices that were not mandatory; used Strava, the run-tracking app I suggested they use, to run on her own, in addition to scheduled practices; and she helped to create personal record posters for teammates’ lockers, as well as help to create snack schedules for meets and senior goodie bags for our senior night.
What has been so impressive about Novalynne, has been her perseverance and dedication to constant personal improvement. When we do workouts at practice, she does extra. For example, if we do hill repeats, she will do extra, or she does them on her own during the off season. Last year, she improved her 5K time by 7:22. I expect her to reduce her 5K time by at least three or four more minutes this year.
From my experience, as a high school cross country coach, Novalynne Beck has been an extremely positive addition to our team. I know she would be a positive addition to a college team. Academically, she is a very strong student, so she can handle the demands of meeting high academic standards while training to run cross country. I believe she actually uses the mental toughness that she has developed from running to help her to achieve the high academic expectations that her rigorous schedule demands of her.
If you have any further questions that I could help answer about Novalynne’s capabilities, do not hesitate to contact me. My email is: [email protected]. I look forward to communicating with you and hopefully seeing you at one of our meets!
Sincerely,
Stacey Nobbe
