Shelby Adams '12 Recruiting Profile

   My name is Shelby Adams and I started cross-country running at New Smyrna Beach High School (New Smyrna Beach, Florida) as a sophomore. When I joined I never expected cross-country to change my life. No matter what happened during the race I knew I had a team that loved me, and the spirit of cross-country would live to cross another finish line. I became confident; I learned to believe in myself and to believe in my girls. I learned the value of hard work, cross-country only gives back what you put into it. After sophomore year I began to take cross-country very seriously. I wanted to learn anything and everything I could to make me faster. I visited cross-country camps and attended practice every morning with my team over the summer. I started to crave personal records and team achievements. My senior year has been nothing short of amazing, thanks to Coach Edwards and my wonderful team. My biggest accomplishment this year has been making second team all conference (21:49-5000m). That day at the 5 Star Conference, New Smyrna Beach Varsity Girls took down Flagler Palm Coast High School for the first time in New Smyrna Beach Cross Country History. It was an amazing feeling to share with a very happy group of girls. This year New Smyrna Beach High Schools varsity girl’s team came 2^nd at our district meet (3A District 4) and advanced on to regionals for the first time in 6 years. I had the responsibility of being team captain this past year and saw the importance of teamwork and cooperation at it’s finest. Cross-country will always be a passion of mine and I dream to someday run in college.
