Personal Statement

My name is Brittany Lewis, I'm seventeen and I am a senior at George Washington High School. Track is not only a sport I participate in, it is also my life. I have been competing in competitive track & field for nearly 9 years. My experience in track has help build me into a strong and determined athlete who will work hard for my success. Becoming a successful athlete is no easy task, which I learned by experience. Through my nine years of competing I've gone through injuries, bruises, burns, upsetting losses, and most recently being an unfocused athlete. During my Junior year in High School, I was faced with many challenges that tested my student and athletic ability. My decision to transfer high schools became my first challenge. I had to re-adjust myself to the new class schedule, as well as, build a new set of study skills. My second challenge was when I entered my second semester at George Washington and found myself having a potential dangerous chaser. I was very much worried and distracted at the same time. Not to mention I was also depressed from sitting out for more then half of the high school track season because of state transfer rules. During this time my grades dropped drastically. This opened my eyes to all the opportunities that were taken away by my mistakes. This also opened my eyes to become a better student, as well as, a better athlete if I wanted to achieve all the goals that I had once set for myself. With the exception of my loss of focus my junior year, I have always been a hard worker with a mentality for success. Now going into my senior year my goal is to raise my GPA so I can enhance my chances of being excepted to a college of choice. I have also challenged myself by taking challenging classes, so I can broaden my work skills. Though I am able to raise my GPA by taking easy classes, I choose to take challenging classes to also challenge myself and become a college bond student. The challenges that I continue to face in school helps me to become a better sufficient athlete. Through my past experience, I know that if I were to become a Student-Athlete at any college that I would bring my heart, hard work, and determination to the track everyday, because this is not only a sport but this is my life.
