Personal Statement

I have always had the drive to be a great athlete and try my very best in everything I do.  I participated in competitive gymnastics for 12 years which helped shape me as a student and an athlete.  I have learned self-discipline, determination, time management, and much more from my experience as a gymnast.  My sophomore year was my first year competing in track because of this, but ever since then I have been working extremely hard to stay fit and to improve in my events.

During spring season, I work on my events as much as possible and continue to put 110% into my practices. I stay at practice as long as I can to make sure I have done my very best. I continue to remain healthy and train all throughout the season as well. During the summer, I do drills for both triple jump and hurdles, along with lifting weights at Crossfit or at my school at least 3 times a week. I keep up with this during the fall and participate in a track club during the winter. I am a part of Fort Collins Track Club during the indoor season and do as much as possible to prepare myself for spring season.

With my sophomore year being my first year of track, I became pretty successful by the end of the 2014 season. My coaches have encouraged me and helped me tremendously to ensure that I give it my all. My triple jump coach is very confident that I will do well in my last years of high school. My sophomore year I was Conference Champion in Tri-Valley for triple jump and 4th in 100m hurdles with a PR of 16.60. I went to 4A state as well in triple jump and received my personal record there with 35’-2.25”. I qualified for finals and ended up placing 10th.

My junior year and 2015 season I improved in both of my events by receiving my personal record several times. In triple jump I ended with a personal best of 36'-5". I was the Conference Champ once again and qualified for state and placing 5th. In 100 hurdles I PRed by over a half of a second with a 15.92 at conference and placed 1st. I also qualified for state for hurdles placing 10th.

My goals for my senior year are to jump up to a 37 or 38 for triple jump and cut my 100 m hurdle time down to lower 15 seconds. I would also like to make it to state for both events again and place higher. I definitely think it is possible with my training, motivation, and the support of my family, friends, and coaches.

Academics are very important to me as well as sports. I maintained a 4.0 all the way through high school so far and expect to keep that. I manage my time very well and always put my academics first. Studying is a priority and is very necessary in order to be successful in school. I am in National Honors Society and am on the Honor Roll for Berthoud High School. I will continue to keep up my academics by putting aside time to study and focusing on my classes.
