I started pole vaulting when I was 13 in January of 2013. I was a competitive gymnast for 6 years and gymnastics taught me dedication, hard work, and how important teamwork is even in a sport that is more based on individual achievements. The transition from gymnastics to pole vaulting couldn't have been easier seeing as my strength and technique from gymnastics was similar to what I needed to be a good pole vaulter.
I work my hardest on and off the vault runway. If there is work to be done to achieve a goal, I never shy away from it. I love when my hard work and dedication pay off in big ways. I am willing to try new techniques and put in extra hours at the gym to improve my vaulting and strength. I've never gone to a practice and left without accomplishing something whether it be a new personal record or a few good jumps working on a new technique. I would love to go to a highly competitive college that will help me achieve big things.
As important as pole vaulting is to me, my academics are more so. I have always maintained a 4.0 GPA and plan on continuing this throughout high school. I will be taking AP classes and am ready to put in the extra effort to get the most out of these classes. I am interested in going into the medical field as a researcher and doctor. I want to go to a college that will prepare me well for medical school.
I am very involved in my school and community through different clubs and through my church's youth group. I have a desire to help others whether it be through athletics or academics.
