My growing passion for track and field started during my freshman year at Tolleson. Through the few years I have had in this sport, I have significantly improved as a runner and have started to compete primarily in mid-distance events. The 400m and 800m races are both events that I find myself competing in at the collegiate level, along with any other events my coaches find my potential in. Since freshman year, and every year after, I have dropped at least 5 seconds off my time in the 400m. To keep this improvement persistent, I began running the 800m as a junior only to find success in that event as well.
As I start my senior year, I am beginning to run my first season of cross country with my club track and field team, NX Level, to build endurance for the upcoming track and field season for both high school as well as club track and field which I have competed with for over two years. In June of 2017, I qualified in the 17-18 women’s age division for the State of Arizona to compete in the USATF National JR Olympic Track and Field Meet in Kansas for the 800m. By the time I am running in college, I hope to reach my goals of competing at the elite level and become an All-American in the 400m and 800m events.
As a junior, I was nominated and honored as Female Athlete of the Week for April 6th-13th 2017 by azcentral.com's Sports Awards, and was recognized as Tolleson's Female Athlete of the Month as a sophomore for March 2016. Through achievements like these, I see how my hard work and intellect has benefited me. I find that being coachable and a good leader is essential in having success in any sport, and I always try to continue to develop these skills and learn as much as I can from all of my coaches. In school, I have been diligent to maintain straight A's all throughout my sophomore and junior year, and receive honor roll my freshman year. Academics are equally as important to me as athletics, and I am looking to pursue a major in sports psychology through a rigorous college education. I believe that the drive and perseverance I obtain will help me to achieve my goals as a college student-athlete and take me to the next level in track and field.
