Shelby Teel '12 Recruiting Profile

I am 5 ft7 inches (all legs) and weigh 125 pounds. Currently, I am a senior at Blue Ridge High School with a 2.8 grade point average; hope to get that to at least 3.0 by mid-term. I have lived my entire life in a small town in northeastern Arizona; this is not your typical Arizona town the elevation is 7,300 ft and temperatures are rarely over 90 degrees. We often have snow on the ground from November to April - I live 30 minutes from a ski resort. I want to go to a college in a medium-sized college town. While education is very important to me the most important thing is to become a college athlete that is not necessarily the right thing to say, but it is true - I LOVE RUNNING HURDLES! I have been on varsity track since my freshman year and was a team captain my sophomore and junior years; I qualified for State the last two years and plan to take State this year in either (or both) the 100M and 300M hurdles. My school team won the 3A State championship in my freshman & sophomore years. I was awarded Most Improved Female Athlete my freshman and junior years. My form is beautiful, my times need improvement; but my dedication and drive are insatiable. With proper coaching I could be the next Lolo Jones. I am looking forward to what my senior year achievements will be. I went to Sprints & Hurdles camps at UCLA and University of Oregon the last two years. Unlike most team sports, I love track because while still on a team your successes (and yes, failures) are individual. I have not decided on a major yet; my interests are many. At this time, I could see myself as a sports trainer/physical therapist. I have always been interested in Forestry and have a passion for hunting, fishing, hiking and camping. I could potentially see myself becoming a Dentist; I have always been one of the few who enjoyed going to the Dentist. When I was six years old my love for competition and speed began when I became a member of the Sunrise Jr. Ski Racing Team. I participated in downhill ski racing for eight years and spent every weekend of the season either training or competing in Arizona, New Mexico & Colorado. The ski team program was discontinued at Sunrise when I was 14 and my family was not able to move to another state to pursue my interest in ski racing (first dream squished). I consistently placed in the top ten in Giant Slalom and Super G races. I have over 30 1st, 2nd & 3rd place finishes. I was Arizona Jr. Champion in Slalom in 2001, 2003 and 2005. I would be interested in attending college in most any state I am always up for an adventure and have enjoyed every state I have travelled to. I love to hunt, fish, ride ATV's and horses. I love country music, skiing, my friends & family, my teachers & coaches, playing the guitar, lifting weights, watching bull riding on TV with my Dad, and pajama day's watching movies with my Mom. I may not be the smartest or fastest - but I am an all-around great girl with lots of potential, varied interests and big dreams. I'm the girl you see running hurdles on your local high school track alone in the summertime. I am totally dedicated to my sport and will work as long and as hard as anyone else to achieve my goals - to make myself, my coach, my family and my teammates proud!
