Personal Statement

Ever since I was young, I always found a way to compete, whether it was in school, sports, or at church. I always strived to be the best at whatever I was doing. I have the drive to succeed by pushing through when things get hard, and to always try my best at everything I do. I hope to run in college and to become a collegiate athlete. I will provide positivity to the group when times seem to be rough especially during a hard workout. I will have respect for my teammates and treat them like family. I will be a leader through my actions by presenting myself as a positive role model to all around me. I try my best in everything I do; such as, academics, sports, and church. If I do not understand a specific topic I will make sure to go in for lunch or after school tutoring until I’ve mastered the material. In sports I will make sure that I am doing the warm up correctly and efficiently, which also applies to the provided workout. I will trust in my coach’s workouts and will try my best to push myself to the full potential. It’s important to not compare myself to others around me but to be humble and to trust in the process. I enjoyed running long distance but have found my passion in running the open 800m. I enjoy this race so much because I have the endurance from running Cross-Country and the speed from training with the 400m runners. I understand there may not be instant results but I also enjoy seeing progress in myself. I plan on getting a 2:20 in the open 800m this year and hope for a strong track season.

Awards and Activities

  • AwardsAt the end of the year banquet I received my third Varsity pin for running. Two years in a row I managed to receive a certificate of recognition for having a positive attitude. I made Honor Roll Freshman and sophmore year of highschool. I received Student of the Month in my Spanish two class for always being on top of things and helping others around me. My teacher recognized my leadership in the class and nominated me for student of the month where I received a pencil and a coupon for free ice-cream. My first year of cheer in high school was my Freshman year where I was awarded an outstanding Leadership medal for standing out among the rest of Freshman cheer squad as a leader
  • ActivitiesI was apart of the Volunteer Program at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center. My application was first accepted, then I had to go through an interview process. For my first year volunteering, I worked in the surgery waiting room; my job consisted of guiding patients towards the information desk after checking in and leading guests back to their relatives in either post-op or pacU. Eventually I earned a pin for being certified of using a wheel chair properly. My second year I worked as a Thursday Shift leader alongside the Senior Corporator of the Volunteer department. This allowed me to get to know the volunteen students personally on their day. Being in a four year Biomedical program has been extremely beneficial. Throughout the year long process we have been able to view cadaver labs, test gel-electrophoresis, teach elementary students, and create a year long medical documentary etc. The class is now working on a year long capstone project. For my capstone, I would like to focus my research on physical disabilities and quadriplegia. Being apart of Biomed club Freshmen year and Senior year has allowed me to become closer with those in my class. I hope to become a Nurse Practitioner in the near future where I will be majoring as a Nurse. I know that the information and hands on activities from biomed will be every beneficial to me. I was also interested in Psychology and am interested into looking further into that as well. I am apart of Veterans Heritage Project, which is a program that runs through Paws for a Cause. Paws for a Cause is a volunteer club for individuals that are interested in helping out in their community. Veterans Heritage Project (VHP) allows students like me to get involved with meeting a veteran of my choice. I interview them, write an essay, and submit it into a book of veterans that gets published into the county library. I am apart of Link Crew. In this club I help guide Freshman throughout their first year of highschool and I show them what it’s like to care for others through consistent communication and hosting group events. This club has allowed me to get to know more and more individuals within my school and has really showed me what’s like to be a leader. This is my second year of being apart of this.
