I'm Chloe White; I weigh 135 lbs. and I am 5' 5'' freshman at Coastal Carolina. As a freshman coming into high school, I saw myself primarily as a basketball player. With encouragement from Coach Mary Birdwell and Devin Hind, I tried Javelin for the first time. Early in the season I broke the Hoover High (AL) school record. As the season progressed, I went to the State meet for Javelin and high jump. With good performances and great leadership from my coaches, I realized that track and field was for me.
In sophomore year, I also was invited to the Mobile Challenge of Champions were I competed and took 1st place against the best talent from schools all around the Southeast United States. I was also able to qualify for the Alabama 6A State meet; I contribute valuable team points by winning State with a throw of 124’ 5”. I also competed in the high jump event; helping our team to capture the 6A Alabama State Championship.
As a junior I remained undefeated in Alabama, and I reached my personal best throw of 142’ 2” in the sectionals. That effort allowed me to advance to the Alabama State Championship again. I was able to help the team win a second consecutive State Championship with a throw of 128’ 8” and a season best High Jump of 5’ 2”. After that, my coaches asked me to compete in the AHSAA State Heptathlon / Decathlon. I successfully performed by placing 7th overall against competition from all areas of Alabama with a total of 3709 points.
I am very committed both on the track, and in the classroom-always striving to do my best. Athletics are very important to me, but my academics comes first. Currently, my desired major is Computer Science systems. As far as college choices, I am looking at big and small schools- currently I am not sure which to choose, therefore; I am keeping my options open. In addition, I am open to D1, D2, and military institutions. The ideal school for me is one that has a great computer science program, experienced throwing coaches, and competes against other highly competitive institutions.
Last year my athletic goals were to help the my high school team win the outdoor state track and field title, break the Alabama Javelin throw record (135 ft.), finish ranked nationally in the top 10, and find the right post secondary institution. The results were that my high school's track team won state, I broke the Alabama State Javelin record by > 5 feet, finished with a national ranking in the top 15 (among class on 2014), and made a successful transition to Coastal Carolina University.
