My name is Hannah Atkinson and I am a 5’10’’ lefty from Toronto, Ontario. My two best qualities are my determination and integrity. I started to play tennis at the age of ten, much later than many of the players I was competing against. I had a lot of catching up to do, so I worked hard and perservered despite obstacles thrown in my path. I worked my way up the rankings, and this year finished in the top ten at the Canadian Junior Nationals in the Under Sixteen division (singles and doubles). A tennis player must have respect for his or her opponent, umpire, equipment, and self. Respect for the Game. This translates into behaving in a sportsmanlike manner on and off the court. I am proud of the way I conduct myself because it shows my integrity. Two years ago, I won the sportsmanship award at Nationals, and last year at the Ontario Provincials. Not only do hard work and discipline pay off in tennis, but also in school. I passed Grade Ten with a 4.0 GPA and am preparing to score above 1800 on my SAT. I am looking to attend a small Division I school in the fall of 2013 with a strong English program. My goal is to find a school that will let me develop as an athlete, a scholar, and most importantly, as a person. I want to attend a school that will reflect my determination and integrity, as I want to represent my school’s values as well. |
