Personal Statement
I held my first tennis racket when I was eight years old. Ever since then it has become my passion in life. Tennis, to me, has become more than an extracurricular activity, it has become a lifestyle that I chose to live. Therefore, I believe that seeking out the best opportunity will enable me to reach my goal of becoming one of the few leading Middle Eastern tennis players. Growing up as a young female in the Middle East, and especially as a female tennis player, I have faced many challenges that I have overcome, and this has given me strength and drive to reach my goal of becoming a role model for many young tennis players like myself, who aspire to become pioneers in the field.
I enrolled at the American University in Cairo (AUC) for my undergraduate studies. I believe that a skilled athlete can only excel with a strong mind. This is the reason I believe that a strong education paired with my passion for tennis is key to reaching my goal. I found that the education system in Egypt gives very little priority to the development of athletics and therefore, many young skilled athletes in Egypt have their goals and aspirations crushed because they are not given the opportunity to further develop themselves. My short term goal is to seek out the best opportunity to develop my academic and athletic skills. My long term goal is to bring back my expertise to Egypt and work towards developing awareness and opportunities with other Egyptian athletes like myself.
