Hello, my name is Corinna Ramos. I am 5’ 2” tall and weigh 115 pounds. I am 17 years old and a senior in high school. I have attended Serrano High School in Phelan, California since the 2009-2010 school year. I am a four year Varsity starter and was nominated to be Team Captain for my Junior and Senior year. Since playing at Serrano High School, our team has only lost one match in our league (Mojave River League).
This past 2011-2012 season, my record was 49-6, which included pre-season as well. I was runner up in the Mojave River League league finals and was named a “player to watch for the coming season,” by the Victor Valley Daily Press newspaper. I also won all area, and all league my junior year.
I have been playing tennis since I was four years old and have loved it ever since. I have had a few setbacks in my career, but I’ve pushed through them and haven’t let them stop me. I kept pushing forward and did not let it discourage me to stop playing because I felt like there was nothing on this earth that could stop me from doing what I love.
Tennis is a big part of my life for many reasons. For one, it has been in my life ever since I can remember. My parents have invested a lot of time and sweat just to help me achieve my goals. Secondly, tennis isn’t a very commonly played sport where I am from and I would like to make where I am from known for tennis so we can get better coaching and a better tennis program for future players. Furthermore, I would love to take my playing skills to the next level and continue in college. I feel like I would have a lot to give to any team that is willing to give me the time to show my love for the sport.
Besides tennis, I also volunteer for the Rotary Club in my community. I also help the California Highway Patrol with a lot of their community events. I have been doing CHiPs for kids since I was a little girl. Volunteering my time for people is very important to me and my family. I like to give back to everyone no matter what their situation is.
Although tennis is very important in my life, my education is very important to me as well. I have maintained above a 3.2 GPA my whole school career. I look forward to attending a college where I can be an asset to the team and also be an asset to the college with my grades.
