Personal Statement

I have swam for a local swim club since I was six, and still love the sport.  I have never had injuries. The best part of swimming is working out, staying in shape and the competition. My High School coach tells me I am a "gamer", I show up to compete, and I fight for the win. I love to lift weights and have added that to my schedule.
After my Sophomore year of swimming I was invited to swim in China with the Washington Culture Exchange. I was able to fundraise the entire cost of the trip and consider it one of my greatest accomplishments. I met other very competitive swimmers from Washington State as well as Chinese swimmers. During the summer after my Sophomore year I attended a week long swimming camp at Spire Institute in Geneva Ohio and fell in love with the Michael Johnson Performance Training weight room and the area of sports psychology.
My swimming goal, going into my senior year is to continue to swim year round for the Port Angeles Swim Club in the platinum group. This group is required to attend 5 out of 7 practices each week, and attend up to 7 meets a year out of town. I will also continue my weight lifting. This equates to 4 hours a day of athletics. The remainder of my high school career will be spent preparing for college as a student athlete.
My collegiate goals are to study psychology and swim.  Each Wednesday for the past 3 years I have volunteered inside an elementary classroom that has autistic students. This opportunity has sparked my interest in how to manage and teach students with autism, however at this time the area of sports psychology is winning!
I am very excited for my senior year, my fellow teammates voted and chose me as one of their team captains! I just finished fundraising for new team warm ups, and practices have started.
