Ever since my first high school swim meet I knew I wanted to swim at the college level. At that meet something clicked in my mind, something was different, and I said to myself this is the kind of team and competition of which I want to be a part. I have been swimming for about twelve years, and have always loved the sport. I swim on a club team year round, and enjoy every minute of it, yet there is something different about the High School season. I love the support that comes from the girls on my team, the sense of all working towards a common goal and the bonding that happens when we all wake up at 4:50 am for morning practices. We see each other at our worst, push through the tough sets together, and come out on the other side feeling the greatest sense of accomplishment.
As a swimmer I would describe my role on my teams as a mentor and a leader, as well as a strong competitor. I hold the school record for the 100 yard breaststroke (1:05.94) and swam the breaststroke leg of our state record 200 medley relay. I was also voted captain of my High School swim team for the upcoming 2015 season. I do my best to encourage my team mates and keep an upbeat and positive attitude throughout all that comes my way; in and out of the pool. I love to bring out the best in others because I feel it brings out the best in me.
How am I different from other recruits? I do not really know. What I do know is that I am a hard worker. I am committed to excellence and I strive to be my best in athletics, personal relationships, and in my academics. I am looking for a college that has a program of study that challenges and inspires me. My goals and aspirations are to continue to study and learn while becoming even more competitive in my sport. Growing up in Maui, Hawaii for the first fourteen years of my life, I have been exposed to a variety of other cultures, practices, and ways of life. After living in Washington State for the last three years, I have come to appreciate a broader perspective on the diversity that surrounds me. These experiences are helping to shape my character and the person I am today.
