Since the age of 9, swimming has taught me about what it means to be competitive, what hard work looks like, true sportsmanship, respect for coaches and competitors, to be a teammate, and leader in and out of the pool. These things make up what I think is a great foundation for my future as a student athlete, and have carried over into my goals to be the best student academically I can be, to make a real difference in the future.
Swimming is a way of life for me. It’s what I think about all day, every day. It keeps me centered and focused. My mind gets clear in the pool. I use the discipline of the sport and apply it to how I study for school, and it really makes a difference in my class room performance.
My long-term swimming goal is to go all the way and reach my full potential…get that Olympic Trial cut one day! Long term academically, I’m not sure yet what I want to study in college, but I feel that it will be focused on sports in some way, maybe sports marketing, sports management or coaching.
In the short-term, I will get my NCSA Junior National cut(s) this year with more hard work, and in school, I’m pushing to get straight A’s on my report card. I know that it’s not just about working hard in the pool, but you have to work just as hard or harder in school to have a full future.
